Many people who go into law do better by staying with the same company and just going into something there as it is a good education and creates logical thinking.

Good managers. I got a law degree and was a secretary and I went over to professional staff, not as an attorney but as a consultant for a union and I was a representative to advise and consult with locals and to deal with their grievances, arbitrations and with contracts and problem solving. I couldn’t afford to begin as a new attorney. I was making more money as a secretary. If you have family who are in law you have a better chance and can get more assistance to learn.

If you graduate from a big school like Harvard or Yale, they make more and get better jobs. But it is also very expensive. I went to law school late in life — at 50 and worked 10 years longer and retired with 30 years working for same company and I am still paying back college loans and I went to night school while working and didn’t go to big name school.

Couldn’t go to state school where it might be a bit cheaper as could not work as many hours as I had to work to get by. So I practiced quasi law. I had one person who consulted me for a will and he never paid me. He didn’t come in to sign but I did drop off a copy for him to see and approve and then to see me to sign. I don’t know if he attempted to sign it or if he did it right if he did. I could have notarized it for him and had it witnessed.

So that is a problem, too, getting paid as everyone wants free advice. And don’t know all the answers. Usually have to do research and that takes timea nd time is money. When I retired I was moving out of state so I placed my registration on file with the state court and didn’t keep it up. Too expensive as the registration fee goes up every year out of law school as they figure you make a bit more every year over a period of time.

That may work and may not as takes overhead and need to have some business coming in. Can try to take court appointed cases for a fee from the court not generous. But some do make it and especially over time. Nice if you have a spouse or family who can help support you.

If you have a good job and can keep it and go to school, it can lead to promotion or just broadening your ability. If you go, you do have to work. Get you a study group up front of bright people. Don’t quit no matter. Remember that they call a judge who graduated from law school with a C, «your honor».

I think I’d have liked to be a judge. Can sometimes get there by working for prosecutor’s office. That is sometimes political at least for asst.

Lower positions are hired. Clerking for judges is excellent, too, but again low pay. Can’t have bnakruptcy. Can’t have parking tickets. Has to be of good character and passed on as having good character after criminal background check and interviews by attorneys in the local bar before you can even sit for the bar exam.

One of my study group was rejected because of parking tickets not paid and attitude. Don’t know if he ever was able to get past that level and sit for the bar.

There is more than history and politics to being a lawyer. Different types of lawyers make varied. Corporate lawyers make a fortune. Criminal lawyers don’t make quite as much money. In reply to this question, Do lawyers make a lot of money? Any attorney can make a decent living if he or she has the skill, work ethic and is willing to find an area of law where money can be. I know an attorney who handles nothing but bankruptcies. He isn’t rich but he is far from poverty. I also know a criminal defense attorney who handles non violent felony cases and misdemeanors.

I make more than she does and I don’t make very. Usually when people have criminal charges against them they are not swimming in a ton of money. Anyone with a lot of money would not hire my friend because they can get better representation from someone.

Many lawyers are unemployed for two reasons: either their not good representing people so they become scam artists who do nothing but take peoples hard earned money and disapper. Or they try to really do their job by challenging the corrupt judges and attempting to make them be fair and impartial on behalf of thier clients and they end up losing every case that goes before these judges.

And it leaves them in a dead end. But you intend on being one of those attorneys that often work hand and hand with the one with the most money you should be fine and your career should be plump.
