An NCAA working group will continue to solicit feedback through April and eventually refine recommendations on how to respond to the state and federal regulatory environment. The decision is a major shift for the NCAA, which had historically been steadfast in prohibiting college athletes from being paid, in order to preserve its amateurism rules. The NCAA, which governs , athletes at more than 1, schools nationwide, insisted their athletes will still be amateur despite this new opportunity to earn money. FB Twitter ellipsis More. Colleges value coaches’ labor more than their players
Tiger Woods, along with many other professional athletes, certainly think so. But do these athletes really deserve all that money? In my mind, absolutely not. Teaching is one of the most economically important occupations because our future economy relies on the education of its youth, yet teachers are paid astronomically less than the average professional athlete is. While President Obama is hard at work reviving the economy, the unproven rookie in the MLB is earning way over that figure.

The college level is already the «minor leagues» for many high level professional sports anyway. The athletes should be making a huge chunk of this money that the colleges are getting from their sports’ publicity. Absolutely not Paying athletes in college will only expand their unfounded young egos and make them more cocky. Schools don’t necessarily make a ton of money of college athletes, they make money off the programs.

Schools don’t necessarily moneh a ton of money of college athletes, they make money off the programs. Dividing the revenue in an equitable fashion would be absolutely impossible. I was a college athlete and I personally think that if there was more than tuition jake on the line, kids would get seriously ooff up. They’re cocky enough as it is Here’s a big problem. Schools typically will have one or two money making sports-usually football and maybe basketball.
On the other hand, they how do people make money off of college athletes have sports that lose money. Profits from football and basketball are used to support the other sports. So take money away from the athletic program and those sports would have to close. Here’s another problem. You couldn’t compensate football and basketball players without also compensating every other athlete on every other sports team.
Wrestling, volleyball, softball, track and field, diving, fencing, etc, etc. Otherwise you are running a double standard in athletics. No, the college players that are good enough to make the pros might have to wait for their money, but they will get it. The ones who aren’t good enough are at least getting a cheap education. And the great players will get it from professional sports, the way they.
The answer to this question is extremely complex. Which sports get paid? What about smaller schools that don’t make much money? There are a lot of other questions that don’t have easy answers.
I agree that some sort of financial compensation should take place, but not sure how it would work. Most 18 year olds are going to blow their money in very stupid ways I know I did. I think the current rules regarding college athletes are stupid.
A college can sell a players jersey with his name on the back, but that player gets nothing out of it? Yeah, they get a «free» college education, but top players bring in much more money to a university then they gain. I’d like to see the NCAA change its rules to allow students to sign pro contracts and still maintain their college eligibility. Let a guy play in college until he actually plays a game in the pros. Keep a rule that if a guy has a pro contract, he has to pay for his own tuition, how do people make money off of college athletes free up more scholarships for players who aren’t as talented.
Everyone wins, except for the NCAA which is trying to keep a stranglehold on college athletics. Well if the tuition is being paid, I think it’s fair game. But if the school isn’t paying tuition, than yes they should be paid.
